Starting June 1, 2011, B.C. family physicians will be provided with additional tools to help British Columbians who belong to one of the at-risk populations (smoker, unhealthy eating, physically inactive, obese) get on the road to a healthier lifestyle.
Prescription for Health is available to patients with one or more of the following risk factors:
Family physicians can conduct a Personal Health Risk Assessment visit with their patients who belong to one of the at-risk populations either as part of proactive care or in response to a request for preventive care from a patient.

The Prescription for Health Program was developed in partnership with the General Practice Services
Committee (GPSC). GPSC is a joint committee of the Ministry of Health and the BC Medical Association
that focuses on better supporting family physicians and community-level patient care in communities
around the province.
People who are physically active for 30 minutes a day, control their weight, eat healthy foods, and refrain from smoking reduce their risk factors for most chronic diseases by up to 80 percent.
