Local governments are already leaders and promoters of healthy living in their communities. The Healthy Communities Initiative builds on those efforts by supporting collaborative action between local governments, health authorities, and community leaders. This is to ensure the health needs of communities are supported in the best possible way. We believe that local governments, as leaders within the community, play a pivotal role in creating environments which promote healthy lifestyles.
From February to May 2012, Healthy Families BC consulted with local governments to explore further opportunities on ways to make regional districts, cities and towns healthier. Areas of focus may include: physical activity, healthy eating, tobacco reduction, healthy built environments and priority populations.
