Create a Workplace Health and Safety Policy. Be specific about who is accountable and when the policy is reviewed and updated. This could include:
- Understanding the Workers Compensation Act and regulations applicable to your workplace.
- Creating a comprehensive occupational health and safety program.
- Ensure workers know about the policy and it is included in new employee orientation.
- Request brochures, posters and videos from WorkSafe BC
- Post safety reminders near potentially hazardous areas (such as loud noise, fall hazards and hazardous materials).
- Train workers for all tasks assigned to them, and check that their work is being done safely.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments.
- Assess workplaces for hazards and take action to prevent harm.
- Provide adequate first aid facilities and services.
- Offer incentive awards to individuals and work groups for achieving safety goals.
