Top Physical Activity Topics of 2017

Wow, another year has almost already passed! Time certainly flies when you are busy and having fun.

What health information were you interested in this year? We like to do a little recap every year to highlight some of our most popular physical activity blogs. So without keeping you waiting, here’s what our readers were most interested in this year.

  1. Is It Safe to Exercise Outside When the Air is Smoky?
This summer, BC experienced some pretty serious wild fires which affected air quality. We sought expert advice and the consensus was to move your workout indoors if possible, and temporarily reduce exercise intensity.
  2. How to Use the Rate of Perceived Exertion Scale
Gauging how hard your workout actually is can be tricky. In this blog we examined the easy-to-use, scientifically backed rate of perceived exertion scale (RPE) and explained how to apply it to your sessions. Take home message; for healthy people, being active in all intensity zones is beneficial.
  3. How to Make Your Bike Fit You Better
Biking is fun, a great way to be active, and can be used for commuting. But…having a comfortable and well-fitting bike can make or break your experience. Read how a few little modifications can have a big influence on your comfort and injury prevention.
  4. Get Your Questions About Fitness Answered by an Expert for Free
Getting credible and reliable information on physical activity, fitness trends, or performance can be challenging with the plethora of information that is readily available on the internet. BC residents have access to Qualified Exercise Professionals here at Healthlink BC. Our job is to find the best activity for you and your current situation and needs. Best of all it’s free.
  5. How to Improve Your Posture
Sit-slouch, text-neck, or driver’s shoulder are terms that you may have heard recently. With most of us spending a great deal of time sitting at work, driving and for relaxing, our posture can take a toll. Learn how to keep a neutral spine, and stretches to open up your hips and shoulders.

To wrap things up we always aim to give you the best advice. What physical activity topics would you like to learn about? What information would help you reach your 2018 fitness goals?

If you have a subject you’d like us to cover, leave a comment below and don’t hesitate to dial 8-1-1 to speak with a Qualified Exercise Professional to help get you moving.
