Stride, Spin, or Skip in During Sneak It In Week!

Compared to your great-grandparents and grandparents, most likely the amount of physical activity you do at work, often called occupational physical activity, has decreased. It’s not surprising to see, in as little as three generations, people went from tending their crops to sitting and typing at their computers.Now this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just means we have to find new ways to be physically active throughout the day. Since most of us spend at least 40 hours per week at our job, what better place to sneak in some extra physical activity than the workplace!

During the week of April 7th, our friends at ParticipACTION are promoting Sneak It In Week. The goal is to get people active during their workday and sneak in multiple 10 minute bouts of physical activity (but feel free to go longer than 10 minutes!). Research has already shown, and most people agree that being inactive isn’t good for health and simply won’t cut it. This being said, we’ve listed a few ideas to get you moving this week:

  • get away from your workstation during your lunch to stretch your legs
  • actively commute (even if it’s partway)
  • get up and do a “walk and talk” with your colleagues

By the end of Sneak It In Week, you’ll realize that being active at work is easier than you think and we anticipate you sneaking in some activity all year round!
