Blue Monday is upon us and it's my goal to provide you with some education and motivation to combat blue Monday with one of the best medicines out there! Yup that's correct, we're talking about physical activity!
Interestingly enough, physicians and scientists are starting to catch on to the overwhelming importance and contributing benefits of physical activity towards health, well-being and overall quality of life! As a result, I have seen an increase in physical activity prescription from primary health care practitioners to assist with the treatment and prevention of a wide range of health conditions and disorders.
Relating to depression, a study that was recently published in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry showed that individuals who were prescribed physical activity instead of a second drug to deal with their depression had equal to or better outcomes than relying on more medication! AMAZING!
All in all, this research shows the power of prescribing physical activity to prevent and treat mental health disorders.
