Physical Activity During Holidays

Happy holidays! I hope that you are able to take a rest from your busy schedule to spend some time with family and friends.

I've been trying to mix in some physical activity with my holiday cheer this year. I have been getting out for walks with family and friends around Abbotsford in the evenings to see some of the Christmas lights up everywhere. Abbotsford looks very festive this time of year! Getting out for a walk is one of the best ways to get in some low impact physical activity - it gets your heart rate up a bit, and is a fantastic stress reliever.

I'm also thinking about lacing up my hockey skates and hitting the rink for a holiday skate. Many recreation centres or community centres hold special family skate nights – a great way to get out and enjoy the season.

However you and your families celebrate this time of year, I wish you all a happy and healthy holiday!

I too believe that there is no substitute for low impact activity such as walking. I try to get in at least one hour of walking each day plus the required stretches afterwards. Now that is a HIGH !!!!!!!! As that famous add told us....JUST DO IT.......and it is a good way to get out and meet people....see different things that are happening in your community and in your town or city.

When my daughter gets older I look forward to returning to our former Christmas Tradition of going for a nice 90 minute hike in the mountains behind my parents home after opening gifts and eating a cooked breakfast. It helps to ensure we have a comfortable appetite for the festive dinner in the late afternoon.
