The holidays are about tradition. Part of our family’s tradition is that every year my mom asks my sister and me what we would like for Christmas dinner, which still takes place at my parent’s house. And every year we give her almost the exact same menu. Some things are classics and we look forward to them all year.
This year however, the conversation took an unexpected turn. She told us that someday soon, she expected us to start asking her what she would like to eat for Christmas dinner.
I’m not even 40 years old; I can’t possibly be in charge of dinner! I tried to get more information out of her: Do I have one year left? Five? I have a lot of things to learn before I can possibly host Christmas dinner. I’ve never even cooked a turkey.
