How to Cook a Turkey

Cooking a turkey is simple. While there are as many recipes out there as there are turkeys, first time turkey cooks should stick to the basics for a reliably delicious bird. Once you feel comfortable with the steps, you can change things up.

The directions below are for an unstuffed turkey. You can make stuffing in a separate dish in the oven. An unstuffed turkey cooks faster, is more food safe, and the stuffing doesn’t soak up fat from the drippings.

For the Love of Potlucks

Everyone likes a good potluck: you get fed while you socialize with people you like. That’s awesome. In my opinion, the downfall of the potluck is the amount of preparation needed to make food good enough to be put on display.

I believe people fall into one of two groups: people who dislike getting ready for potlucks and people who plan potlucks. I’m in the first group; I don’t particularly like to cook and I’m not a planner. However, I still want to bring something delicious and healthy. Cost is also a consideration. + MORE

Slow Cooker Fast Dinner

In terms of my overall performance as a parent, I feel like I peak on Sunday night and the rest of the week is a slippery slope toward adequacy. On Sunday night, the laundry is done, the house is tidy, the grocery shopping is done and lunches are made for the next day. By Friday night, the laundry baskets are full, the house is a mess, we have very little fresh produce in the fridge and my hair starts falling out in clumps. OK, my hair doesn’t fall out, but the rest is alarmingly accurate.
