A Taste of Something New

I’ll often forget the names of places I visit, but food experiences, especially new ones, tend to stick in my mind. Maybe it’s because these experiences tend to recruit all of my senses. All five of my senses are poised for more stimulation as I’ll soon be taking a break from contributing to this blog and moving to Austria for a spell.

I’m quite interested in seeing how Austrian food culture differs from ours in Canada. Food cultures influence what, how, when and where people eat. + MORE

Inspire a Generation and Take Action this Summer Olympics

With over 36 sports and 20 days of competition, this Olympics is going to be an amazing spectacle! In respect to this year’s tagline “inspire a generation,” I thought it would be good to prep our readers with some physical activity enthusiasm!

We know that our health is at risk due to an overwhelming increase in sedentary behaviour and screen time. I urge you to take action and help our children and youth benefit from the Olympic Games by providing opportunities for them to sit less and play more!

Apple of My Eye

BC apples are available through the winter and spring (thanks to cold storage), but I think they really taste best when they’ve been freshly picked. Of all the things we share in our family, a case of gastroenteritis (a.k.a. the stomach flu) was something that I’d have preferred to keep to myself. It was worrying to see him vomiting up the milk from three feedings in a row - and then there was the diarrhea.

We called 8-1-1 to get advice from a Registered Nurse at HealthLink BC who asked us questions about our son’s health. The nurse advised us to take him to our doctor to be checked to see if he was dehydrated. + MORE

Super-Kale-Fragilistic

What’s with all the buzz about kale chips? It seems I’m one of the very few people that hasn’t made or even tried them. I mean, how good can they be?

Don't get me wrong. I know kale is nutritious and delicious. It’s a common green in our household (with its long growing season - you can find it almost all year long in southwestern BC and from spring to fall in the rest of the province) but we typically sauté it and season it to match whatever we are cooking.

I love it. + MORE
