“If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it”, she said. It was a radio interview and the guest (not a registered dietitian) was giving tips on how to eat “healthy.”Blog

I grew up with a love for food: sourcing it, cooking it and eating it. With this, and an interest in health, I eventually made my way to the University of Alberta where I studied food and nutrition. This Bachelor of Science gave me the opportunity to further explore my interest in public health and led me to complete a combined dietetic internship and Master of Health Sciences degree at the University of Toronto with a focus on community nutrition. Since becoming a registered dietitian, I have enjoyed working in BC as a Nutrition Educator with the BC Dairy Association and as the Healthy Eating Promotions Dietitian for HealthLink BC. As a result, food has continued to play a role in my life. From amateur food geek to, you might say, a professional food geek.
I’m lucky to have been part of the Healthy Families BC blog team. In my time in B.C. I have grown from really liking food, to really appreciating food. I have since moved on and I am now back in my home province of Alberta. So long and happy eating!

I grew up a true Albertan omnivore. This didn’t mean I was a mindless eating machine (though, in my teens that wasn’t far from the truth) but, basically if it was food I would eat it. In other words, I had a healthy acceptance of all things edible—anything farmed, fished, gathered, hunted or bought at the store was fair game.March 1, 2012 by Kenton Delisle

It was January 1st. A new day, a new year, a new approach. I had been growing more and more weary with my workout routine and thought I needed to kick-start myself into some new activities to reinvigorate my inner motivations.
