The new year is always an exciting, uplifting and positive time of year! By now, most individuals have had a chance to let loose over the holidays, reunite family ties and hopefully reflect on the previous year's activities.

In the realm of health and fitness, new year's is an exceptionally busy time. As a health promotion professional this should not do anything but excite me to see so many people standing up tall and taking ACTION! to improve their health.

Schools out, kids are home, family members and old friends are in from out of town and the holidays are in full swing!

Last week the Healthy Families BC team and I challenged parents across BC to include increased activity and decreased screen-time for themselves as well as their children over this holiday season.

In line with this challenge, I'm promoting a great and exceptionally healthy method for families to reunite with each other and their close friends.

Happy holidays! I hope that you are able to take a rest from your busy schedule to spend some time with family and friends.

I've been trying to mix in some physical activity with my holiday cheer this year. I have been getting out for walks with family and friends around Abbotsford in the evenings to see some of the Christmas lights up everywhere. Abbotsford looks very festive this time of year!

Its official! The moment all kids and especially parents have been waiting for is now upon us... SCHOOL IS OUT!!!

In line with last weeks blog, "planning for a healthy and active holiday season", it's important for parents and guardians to plan ahead to ensure a healthy and active holiday season.

How many parents watch their kids waste their holidays away in bed (long sleep-ins), on the couch in front of the TV (TV Marathons) or on the computer (FB, Twitter, Gaming)? If your answer is yes, this is very very common and we need to stand up and do something about it!
