Did you know that the level of active play in our children has been on a significant decline in the past decade?

Even worse, only 93% of Canadian children and teens DON'T meet the recommended Canadian Guidelines of at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day? In order to make our children happier, healthier, stronger and more confident, it’s essential that we provide numerous opportunities for unstructured physical activity and active play daily.

A Winning Way to Eat More Veggies

If you ask people about their healthy eating goals, “Eat more vegetables” usually ranks amongst the top three. It’s great to have a healthy eating goal, but it’s even better to have a strategy for achieving that goal.

In my home, our most effective strategy for increasing our vegetable intake has been to join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program early each spring. We pay in advance for a 16 week share of the harvest.

Butter vs. Margarine: Enough Already

I remember the first time someone held a buttercup below my chin and told me I liked butter. Apparently the fact that my chin reflected yellow was the giveaway. Turns out, if this is the gold standard for liking butter, everyone likes it (except men with beards). In reality, however, the physiological reason for the reflection is in the buttercup and not the person.

That aside, many people do love butter and may be confused about the ongoing debate as to which is better for us - butter or margarine?

Spring break is around the corner and I’m sure everyone is excited to have their children at home for a whole two weeks!

To ensure our kids are happy, healthy, strong and confident, it’s essential that we get them to sit less and move more everyday!

How many of you cringe at the sight of our kids sitting in front of the TV, computer, or mobile device for hours on end?

“Do I need to eat snacks?”

Although this is a common question, there isn’t one answer.

The need to snack depends on two things: the person and the snack.

The person: Do I need the extra food? Do I need to eat smaller amounts more often?
